Smoke Alarms, Carbon Monoxide Alarms and Batteries

Carbon Monoxide Alarms Home Depot logo

As part the 2021 fire prevention program, Home Depot has donated carbon monoxide alarms to Fridley Fire Division to install in residents’ homes. Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas formed by the incomplete combustion of fuels.

Household appliances, such as gas fireplaces, boilers, central heating systems, water heaters, cookers, and open fires which use gas, oil, and wood may be possible sources of CO gas. Dangerous levels of CO can emit from these appliances if they are not working properly. Running a car engine in an enclosed space can also cause CO poisoning.  Carbon monoxide is harmful when breathed, and large amounts of CO can overcome a person in minutes, without warning, causing them to lose consciousness and suffocate.

Smoke Alarms & Batteries

Fridley Fire Division will also continue to offer smoke alarms to residents. Smoke alarms are critical for the early detection of a fire in your home. In a fire, smoke and deadly gases will activate the smoke alarm giving residents time to get out of the building.
