Neighborhood Park Improvements Provide Sense of Place in Fridley

A grand opening celebration was held for Commons Park as part of the 2026 Fridley ‘49er Days event, giving a glimpse into the park’s future. The new ballfield held a baseball clinic in partnership with the Minnesota Twins and the upgraded park building and play spaces were filled with laughter and fun. The City also unveiled the park’s new public art installation, “Manoomin”.

The major renovations of Commons and Moore Lake Parks exemplify what it means to live and recreate in Fridley. Places to gather, play and explore bring us together through shared experiences, serving as landmarks for generations to come.

Our smaller parks also play a critical role in defining the character of Fridley and the unique people, location and landscape of each of our neighborhoods.

Two neighborhood parks are scheduled to be reconstructed in the second half of 2026. Flanery Park, 1487 Onondaga St. NE, and Summit Square Park, 5221 Capitol St. NE.

Additionally, five neighborhood parks, (Madsen, Briardale, Harris Lake, Hackmann Circle and Ruth Circle) are scheduled to be renovated in 2027. This past summer, hundreds of residents attended neighborhood park events and submitted survey responses to shape the future of these treasured spaces.

Using input from residents to guide their decisions, staff will complete the final designs for playgrounds, trails, athletic courts and other park amenities. A special thank you to those who took the time to share their thoughts and ideas.
