The 4th of July is historically one of the busiest times of the year for fire departments, with many fires caused by the improper use and disposal of fireworks. Because these incidents can be both dangerous and destructive, we would like to work together to help prevent as many fires as possible. To support you in this effort, we are sharing several simple fire safety reminders for both property managers and residents:
• If possible, please keep dumpsters stored outside during the holiday period. While we hope no hot fireworks are placed in dumpsters, keeping them outside can reduce the risk of injury and property damage if a fire does occur. Ideally, dumpsters should remain outside from Friday, June 26, through Monday, July 6. Dumpsters must be returned to their original location by July 7.
• Printable“No Fireworks” signs(PDF, 191KB) and Illustrations(PDF, 257KB) can be placed on on dumpsters, trash chutes, and other trash disposal areas.
• Distribute printed fireworks safety flyers(PDF, 178KB) with information on the safe disposal of used fireworks.
• Remind multi-family residents that grilling and other open flames are not permitted on balconies or within 15 feet of apartment buildings. Listed electric or gas-fired barbecue grills that are permanently mounted and connected to the building’s gas supply or electrical system may be permitted. Please contact the Fire Department if you have any questions.
As a reminder, dumpsters must be returned to their original location by July 7 in accordance with City Code.
By following these simple safety measures, we can help ensure that residents throughout Fridley have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday.
