Neighborhood Programs

Neighborhood Ambassadors

As a Neighborhood Ambassador, you are the link between the people on your block and the city you call home! Fridley is looking for residents, business owners and neighbors who want to stay connected, share what they know and help their community thrive.

What are Neighborhood Ambassadors responsible for?

Ambassadors serve as Fridley's most trusted and visible community voices. Their role is to:

  • Share City news, updates and resources with their neighbors

  • Serve as a welcoming presence for new residents in their area

  • Represent their neighborhood at City events, including Night to Unite

  • Bring neighbor concerns and questions back to the appropriate City contact

  • Reinforce a positive, accurate picture of Fridley to those around them

Ambassadors are not expected to be available 24/7, investigate incidents, respond to emergencies or weigh in on political matters on the city's behalf. Programming will kickoff in January and include various trainings and courses throughout the year.

Neighborhood Watch

We need you to partner with us to help make Fridley a safe, friendly, vibrant and stable community. You make the difference!

Primary goals:

  • Build a partnership between the community and the police
  • Help police and citizens deal with issues by using problem-solving skills & techniques

Fridley neighborhoods are organized into 11 districts, and each district has 2 Neighborhood Resource Officers. The NRO is a familiar face in the neighborhood, a connection to the Fridley Police Department, and is able to assist you in developing long term solutions to neighborhood problems.

Note: In the event of an emergency or crime, or if you want to talk to an officer immediately, don't hesitate to call 9-1-1. All of our officers are willing to respond and help in any way that they can.

For more information on how you can get involved with Fridley's Neighborhood Watch program, contact the Fridley Police Division at 763-572-3626.

Be In-the-Know!

We offer a variety of ways to stay up-to-date on Police activity in your neighborhood, crime alerts and community events. Here is a partial list of ways you can get information:

District Officers

A District Officer is assigned to work with the citizens of each district to solve problems or concerts that may surface in their neighborhood. Our District Officers have been trained in problem-solving and are aware of various resources available to the community.

Citizens are encouraged to meet and get to know their District Officers. It is important to develop a trusting, working relationship prior to dealing with problems that may be identified in a neighborhood.

Your District Officers

Note: Many direct numbers listed below are voicemail only as officers spend much of their working hours in the field. Depending on shifts and schedules, these messages may not be immediately received. Please dial 9-1-1 in case of emergency or if you need to speak to an officer right away.

  • District 1: Sergeant Nick Steiger  (763-502-1926)
  • District 2: Sergeant Erik Johnson  (763-502-1914)
  • District 3: Sergeant Tom Roddy ( 763-502-1950)
  • District 4: Shawn Murphy (763-238-7805)
  • District 5: Sergeant Chris McClish  (763-502-1967)
  • District 6: Sergeant Tyler Abrahamson (763-502-1912)

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program

What is CERT?

Fridley CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is an educational program informing residents and businesses throughout our community about the importance of preparing for any kind of disaster. During an incident, emergency service personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away. By getting trained in CERT, you will have the skills to help emergency responders save lives and protect property.

As a member of a CERT team, you can respond to disasters, participate in drills and exercises and take additional training. CERT teams are known and trusted resources to emergency responders and their communities.

Under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams help provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information and organizing other volunteers at a disaster site. Volunteers trained in CERT also offer a potential workforce for performing duties such as shelter support, crowd control and evacuation. The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until trained emergency personnel arrive.

The benefits of CERT Training

CERT training is a 45-hour course approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and provides critical skills in emergency preparedness and response.

Participants learn how to:

  • Identify and anticipate hazards
  • Reduce fire hazards in the home and workplace
  • Extinguish small fires
  • Assist emergency responders
  • Conduct light search and rescue
  • Set-up medical treatment areas
  • Help reduce survivor stress
  • Apply basic medical techniques

Fire Corps Volunteers

Fire Corps is meant for individuals who have a desire to serve in a capacity other than firefighting or emergency medical services. This opportunity is perfect for older adults with prior public service or anyone interested in learning more about emergency services and a passion to better our community.

Fire Corps members are issued a department uniform and equipment necessary to complete their volunteer work. No prior experience or training is necessary, though we look to utilize current skills and experience for a similar role within the Fire Division.
