With the extreme summer highs and frosty winter lows of Minnesota’s climate, it takes a lot of energy to keep homes comfortable year‐round. Adding insulation and sealing air leaks is one of the most impactful energy improvements you can make to your home.

Many homes in Fridley were built to the standards of an old energy code that required much less insulation than seen in modern construction. Insulation helps to keep cooled/warmed air indoors and prevents drafts from outdoor air, overall improving home comfort.

On average, improved insulation lowers energy bills by 10% and decreases wear and tear on your HVAC system. CenterPoint and Xcel Energy offer insulation rebates for homes heated with natural gas and electricity respectively. The City of Fridley’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority offers matching rebates of up to $500.

Income‐qualified residents may also qualify for the Homeowner Efficiency Redo Opportunity (HERO) program in which homeowners receive a free energy review and at least 50% of the cost for qualifying insulation upgrades.
