The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has begun engagement efforts with Fridley and surrounding metro cities for the I-694 study between Brooklyn Blvd. and Lexington Ave to identify future improvements that address congestion, and improve connections and safety for people who drive, walk, bike and roll in the area. Community experiences traveling along or across I-694 will be used to identify potential improvements.

We are studying I-694 between Brooklyn Blvd. in Brooklyn Center and Lexington Ave. in Arden Hills. This 9-mile section of I-694 is one of the most heavily traveled and congested areas in the Metro. Drivers experience delays throughout the day and several locations have higher than average crash rates. Safety and connectivity are a concern for people walking, biking and rolling in the area.
This study will review existing conditions, collect public input, identify safety and connectivity needs for people who drive, walk and bike and recommend ideas to guide short-term and long-term improvements.

Future Community Engagement Events:
Through August 18, 2026, MnDOT is encouraging residents and commuters who regularly utilize this stretch of I-694 to visit the study website to take their online survey which will help identify specific locations of concern.
