Activities and Programs

Preschool Activities - Ages 3-5

Evening Sports - Ages 3-5

Participants must be ages 3-5 by the start of the program

Youth instructors will focus on teaching children age-appropriate fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interaction. All equipment is provided.

Kids Creative Corner

Ages 3‐10  | 10 a.m. - noon  |  Saturdays 
September 12 ‐ October 31 (closed Oct 17), Commons Park Building

It’s time to let your imagination run wild! This drop‐in program invites kids to draw, build, create and explore through fun hands‐on activities! We will have magnetic tiles, Legos, coloring sheets, craft supplies and more.

Drop‐in fee: $3 per child / $6 per family

After-School Activities - Gr. K-4

The following classes are offered after school at Hayes Elementary School from 3:45 ‐ 5:15 p.m. to youth in grades K‐4 (unless noted otherwise﴿. Snacks are provided before class. Recreation leaders will meet participants in the cafeteria at dismissal time. Stevenson students will meet our Recreation leader at the bus loading area and will be transported to Hayes. For students not attending Hayes or Stevenson, drop‐off is at 4 p.m. at the Hayes cafeteria. Parent/caregiver pick‐up is in the Hayes cafeteria at 5:15 p.m.

Note: If your child needs to be transported from Stevenson Elementary to Hayes Elementary, please select the transportation option when registering. Transportation is NOT provided after class - all participants must be picked up at Hayes.

The following classes are offered after school at Commons Park from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to youth currently in grades 5-8. At dismissal, participants will walk down to the Commons Park Building and meet the Recreation leaders. For students not attending Fridley Middle School, drop-off is at 3:15 p.m. at Commons Park Building. Parent/caregiver pick-up is from 4:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Note: We do not offer transportation to or from the program.

All Ages

Art Classes - All Ages 

Make a Frog, Toad or Polliwog for an Upcoming Community Art Installation - Thursday, Sept. 17, 6-8pm, Moore Lake Community Building. Free, but registration is required.
Dive into their vibrant world of frogs, toads and polliwogs, with local artist Jessica Turtle in this choose-your-own-adventure art workshop to help create a piece to be displayed as part of an upcoming community art installation . Participants will use colorful visual guides to can choose their favorite amphibian and select art materials that ignite their creativity. With templates and resources available for all ages and skill levels, everyone is welcome to join.

Gardening & Natural Resources Classes - All Ages 

Tree Planting and Care Workshop, 6-7pm, Moore Lake Community Building. Free, but registration is required.
Join City of Fridley Parks staff for a free workshop on tree planting and care. Topics include tree selection, proper planting, pruning, and more. Participants will watch a planting demo and get hands-on experience with minor pruning.

Enrichment Classes 

Let's Learn Mahjong!
American Mahjong is a wonderful way to stay socially connected while giving your brain a healthy workout. Join us to learn the rules and strategies in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Whether you're brand new or simply looking to refresh your skills, this class will guide you step-by-step. All supplies are provided. 

Immersive Soundbath
Experience a one-hour sound meditation that uses crystal singing bowls and other instruments designed to create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. It is the perfect way to recenter and recharge before the busy holiday season! This immersive experience will calm your mind and soothe your soul, allowing you to enter a deep state of relaxation.  Most participants choose a lying position on the floor for the duration of the class.  Please bring a yoga mat or blanket along with any other items such as pillows and additional blankets for your comfort. 

Art Classes 

Introduction to Crop Art 
You've seen the popular crop art competition at the State Fair, now come learn to make your own! Participants will learn basic crop art techniques to make a small piece of their own using seeds. No experience necessary.

Embroidered Mushroom Ornament
Stitch a cute, wool felt mushroom ornament. You'll learn two different embroidery stitches to make this textured mushroom with polkadots No experience necessary.

Poppy Pin
Make your own poppy pin from wool felt. You'll learn two different embroidery stitches and make a beautiful brooch to wear. This class is a perfect way to honor Veteran's Day! No experience necessary.

Pyramid Bag
Learn to stitch a pyramid shaped zipper bag. Great for cords and chargers, dice or other small trinkets. You get to design your bag and choose your colors. No experience necessary.

Pickleball

Classes meet weekly for four sessions. Classes accommodate skill levels from Beginner to Advanced.

Skills & Drills - Know how to play the game. Looking to improve.

Advanced Class
Live Play & Coaching - Coach watches game, offers performance tips.

Clinics

Clinics meet for a 1-2 day weekend session. Clinics are intended to introduce brand new players to the game. Beginner skill level.

Enjoy the party as we shake to the rhythms of Latin-infused music/dance! 

Adult Sports Leagues

Volleyball Leagues - Coed and Women's 

Indoor Year-Round and Outdoor Summer Sand leagues are offered at both a competitive and recreational skill level. Individual and team registrations available. Team Roster Min/Max: 6/12.

Pickleball Leagues & Tournaments

All Ages League and Ages 20-40 League

Self-officiated. Non-DUPR league for all skill levels. Individuals will register and be placed in doubles games with players of similar skill level. Both All Ages and Ages 20-40 Leagues offered.

Minnesota Pickleball DUPR Rated Competitive League

In partnership with Minnesota Pickleball, we are offering state sanctioned ladder league! All results are recorded in DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating﴿ and the Minnesota Pickleball player database. No specific skill level or DUPR rating is required but this league is meant for a slightly more competitive level of play than our other league offerings. Open to any age, gender, and no partner is necessary.

55+ Golf - Coed

Teams are made up of 2 individuals. Players will be paired up, unless you indicate a specific partner at time of registration.

 

Bean Bag Toss - Coed

Fridley Youth Sports Assoc.

Fridley Youth Sports Association (FYSA)

Fridley Youth Sports Association (FYSA) promotes youth sports in Fridley, providing opportunities for all youth to participate in competitive and recreational team sports. FYSA is a non-profit organization relying solely on parent volunteers. Current sports offered through FYSA include Baseball, Basketball, Football, Softball and Soccer.

Spring Lake Park Lacrosse Association (SLPYLA)

Minneapolis Titans Youth Hockey

The Minneapolis Titans Youth Hockey program is dedicated to developing young hockey players in and around the Twin Cities. Kids from Minneapolis, North St. Paul, Columbia Heights, Fridley, and Brooklyn Center, Minnesota are welcome to join! Registration, season information, learn to skate program, and more can be found on their website.
