Adult/Child Winter Scavenger Hunt

Ages 3‐5 | 10 a.m. - noon | Monday
Dec. 14 - Jan. 25, Commons Park Building

Bundle up and head outside for a fun‐filled winter scavenger hunt at Commons Park! Kids will search for items hidden throughout the park. Once all items have been spotted, come inside for a little prize!

After-School Activities - Gr. K-4

The following classes are offered after school at Hayes Elementary School from 3:45 ‐ 5:15 p.m. to youth in grades K‐4 (unless noted otherwise﴿. Snacks are provided before class. Recreation leaders will meet participants in the cafeteria at dismissal time. Stevenson students will meet our Recreation leader at the bus loading area and will be transported to Hayes. For students not attending Hayes or Stevenson, drop‐off is at 4 p.m. at the Hayes cafeteria. Parent/caregiver pick‐up is in the Hayes cafeteria at 5:15 p.m.

Note: If your child needs to be transported from Stevenson Elementary to Hayes Elementary, please select the transportation option when registering. Transportation is NOT provided after class - all participants must be picked up at Hayes.

Read to a Dog with the Mississippi Library

Gr. K-4  | 3 - 5 p.m.  | Friday
Nov. 13, Commons Park Building

Read out loud to a quiet and friendly trained therapy dog and their adult volunteer. The patient attention these dogs offer helps beginning, struggling, or reluctant readers gain confidence and improve their reading skills. Sign up for a 15‐minute session with Abby, a 7‐year‐old Golden Retriever and licensed therapy dog. Program geared towards grades K‐4

KIDS LEARN TO SKATE AT COMMONS PARK

Join us as we learn to skate at the new at Commons Park. Kids will learn the basics of ice skating through balance and edge control. As we work through the class, we will play fun games that help us use our new skills. Skates are available, if needed.

After-School Activities - Gr. 5-8

The following classes are offered after school at Commons Park from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to youth currently in grades 5-8. At dismissal, participants will walk down to the Commons Park Building and meet the Recreation leaders. For students not attending Fridley Middle School, drop-off is at 3:15 p.m. at Commons Park Building. Parent/caregiver pick-up is from 4:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Note: We do not offer transportation to or from the program.

Houseplant Swap

Walking Club at Commons Park

Join us for a walk! Once a Month, we will meet and walk through Commons Park and the surrounding area. Walks will be 1-2 miles on paved trails. All ages are welcome, but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Come meet members of your community while staying active! Fridley Recreation staff will be present to lead walk and provide information on our parks and programs! Meet at the Commons Park building before and after your walk for refreshments.

Enrichment Classes  

Immersive Soundbath
Experience a one-hour sound meditation that uses crystal singing bowls and other instruments designed to create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. It is the perfect way to recenter and recharge before the busy holiday season! This immersive experience will calm your mind and soothe your soul, allowing you to enter a deep state of relaxation.  Most participants choose a lying position on the floor for the duration of the class.  Please bring a yoga mat or blanket along with any other items such as pillows and additional blankets for your comfort.

Art Classes  

Poppy Pin
Make your own poppy pin from wool felt. You'll learn two different embroidery stitches and make a beautiful brooch to wear. This class is a perfect way to honor Veteran's Day! No experience necessary.

Pyramid Bag
Learn to stitch a pyramid shaped zipper bag. Great for cords and chargers, dice or other small trinkets. You get to design your bag and choose your colors. No experience necessary.

Get together with other adults for craft time! We will make a different item each month. This is a great time to get creative, and meet other adults in our community!

Chair Yoga
Chair yoga modifies the traditional yoga practice by using seated support. The practice improves flexibility and increases balance, all while remaining accessible to all ability levels.

Fridley Youth Sports Association (FYSA)

Fridley Youth Sports Association (FYSA) promotes youth sports in Fridley, providing opportunities for all youth to participate in competitive and recreational team sports. FYSA is a non-profit organization relying solely on parent volunteers. Current sports offered through FYSA include Baseball, Basketball, Football, Softball and Soccer.
